Panourgias Papaioannou, Communications Officer for VOICES WG2 and an Early Career Researcher (ECR), has been elected to the Executive Board of the European Association of Institutional Research (EAIR). EAIR is dedicated to advancing research, policy, and practice in higher education to benefit the academic community.

Panourgias was officially inducted into the EAIR Board during the 46th Annual EAIR Forum, held at University College Cork in August 2024. The EAIR Forum provides an important platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to exchange knowledge, present findings, and network with colleagues from across the globe.

Panourgias’s research focuses on the impact of digitalization on academic performance appraisal systems. He is an active member of WG2 and recently co-authored a paper titled “The Participation of Early Career Researchers in the Decision-Making Bodies of a German University”, published in the latest volume of the Journal of Post-Colonial Directions in Education. The article, can be accessed here.

At EAIR, Panourgias intends to present findings from the VOICES project and explore potential collaborations. He strongly advocates for giving Early Career Researchers a voice at key events like the Annual Forums organized by EAIR and VOICES.

His election to the EAIR Executive Board underscores the growing need for academic institutions and organizations to become more inclusive, enabling ECRs to share their perspectives and contribute to leadership and decision-making processes—aligned with the VOICES mission.

We congratulate Panourgias Papaioannou on this significant achievement and look forward to him sharing WG2’s research on the inclusion of Early Career Researchers in higher education leadership at future EAIR meetings.

The 47th Annual EAIR Forum will be held in Utrecht, Netherlands, from August 27–29, 2025. For more information, please visit the EAIR website.
