WG2 led by prof. Christine Cross and prof. Liudvika Leišytė welcomed the new members who joined WG2 meeting. Several new members have joined the WG2 and it has now reached more than 100 members.
The general objectives of the WG2 were underlined, with the focus on collecting empirical data in various member countries and preparing a research publication in 2023.
The core of the meeting discussed the extent to which early career researchers voices are heard in the higher education institutions of WG2 members. The prevalence of precarious academic contracts was emphasised. The increase in short-term contracts in academia is an alarming trend, since early career researchers usually do not have the rights and power full-time academics have. Therefore, the importance of paying attention to the type of contracts that early career academics have was underlined in data collection. In addition, disciplinary differences need to be taken into account.
The participants were invited to share their news, updates and related publications with the Communication Officer of the WG2, Mr. Panourgias Papaioannou ([email protected]).
Finally, the research sub-group of volunteers was confirmed, who will collect data on the inclusion of ECRs in decision-making bodies of HEIs. The data collection will be carried out in two stages, with the first stage of document based data collection ending in March 2023. The first discussion of preliminary findings of the research sub-group will take place in an online workshop on 1 December.
